How to choose your tool holder?

For many of us, from an early age, a love for tools is born. For others, having tools is essential for making repairs, maintenance, and creations. Regardless of the reason, we must give them the space they need for better management and to keep them functioning in optimal conditions.

A tool organizer will help us achieve these goals, and there are different types depending on our needs. But what should we consider when choosing one? While design may be an attractive factor, we need to think about the following:

Approximate quantity, weight, and dimensions of the tools to be stored.

Is it necessary to move the tool box?

Do the tools need special protection?

If our workplace is a workshop, an industrial room, a garage, or our yard, the most ideal option would be a cabinet like the one shown in Figure 1a, which allows for movement if necessary. It's important to check its capacity, the weight it can support, material, whether it's possible to add dividers or protectors, and the type of lock to access the tools stored inside.

On the other hand, if we frequently need to move around, a tool case or box, like those illustrated in Figures 1b and 1d, might be suitable. We can also find a wide variety of these: different sizes, materials, and shapes. However, it's equally important to know their capacity, whether they have compartments, and their durability.

Belt tool holders, like the one in Figure 1c, don't protect our tools as such, but they are very practical for jobs where we need tools close at hand but don't have a table or space to place them.
