The IEC 61300-3-35 standard is a set of quality requirements for fiber optic connectors; implemented to ensure good performance in terms of insertion and return loss.
This standard can be used as a quality reference between suppliers and clients, and work groups.

• As a quality and network performance guarantee within an organization.
For this standard, the values used are the result of years of extensive testing on various connectors under different conditions: scratched, dirty, damaged, and so on. To facilitate IEC analysis and to identify which connectors comply and which do not, solutions such as microscopes with a pass-fail function are available on the market, as shown in the following image:

Pass-fail function
The IEC standard requires knowing the exact location and size of connector defects. The pass-fail function provides this result to the user. Simply place the connector under the microscope and perform the analysis to get the result. If damage such as dirt is found, cleaning will be sufficient to ensure the connector meets the standard's requirements and is in optimal condition for use. If the connector has damage such as dents or scratches, it is best to use another jumper, cable, or connector to ensure a good connection.
