What is a fiber optic media converter?

A fiber media converter is a simple network device that allows two different media types to be connected, such as twisted pair with fiber optic. It is a widely used device in data transport services and Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) access for business clients to make copper-to-fiber or fiber-to-fiber connections. It is a flexible and cost-effective solution as it is used to extend Local Area Networks (LANs), convert link speeds, or convert fiber optic modes and, in turn, brings with it the advantages of fiber optics, such as immunity to electromagnetic interference.
