Strapping fittings to posts: an easy and safe technique.

Strapping fittings to a post is a simple, efficient, and safe technique when performed with the right materials. In this article, you will find the key steps, practical tips, and the quality assurance offered by Incom with its line of specialized straps and fittings.

What is cable strapping?

Cable strapping is the process of applying a strap (a flat steel or plastic band) around one or more cables to keep them together, reinforce them, and protect them during handling and transport.

The procedure involves wrapping the cables with the strap, tensioning it to the appropriate resistance, and sealing the connection with buckles, welding, or metal seals. This tensioning ensures that the cables remain firm without damaging them from excessive pressure or loosening over time.

Safety equipment for strapping.

It is important to have the appropriate safety equipment and to be using it when strapping cables. At Incom, we have top-quality straps, tensioners, and fittings, designed to withstand loads and outdoor conditions.

Likewise, have the necessary tools and materials ready:

It is recommended to do a preliminary check to ensure there are no difficulties or obstacles that would impede the installation path.

How to strap fittings to a post? Step-by-step

  1. Insert the buckle into the strap and the fitting to be installed, with the ears facing the strap tip and the teeth facing us. Fold the end of the strap under the buckle.
  2. Wrap the post with the strap, keeping the buckle in front of you to facilitate manipulation of the strapping tool.
  3. Upon reaching the tip of the strap with the buckle, insert 4 to 5 cm of the strap through the inside of the buckle and fold it back.
  4. Adjust the strap manually to the diameter of the post and place the strapping tool, releasing the safety catch to insert the strap. It will be important to ensure that the strapping tool's crank is at the stop to insert the strap.
  5. Turn the crank to the right to tighten the strap until the fittings are fixed.
  6. Fold the strap back to prevent it from retracting and cut it with the cutting lever.
  7. With the help of a hammer, bend the strap and the buckle tabs to secure it.

And that's it, we have finished installing our fitting and are ready for the next step of our installation.

Additional tips

  • Wear gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself from rebounds or strap splinters.
