Drop fiber optic cable is used in the final connection from the NAP (Network Access Point) to the installation (a home, office, to an antenna, etc.) in an FTTX architecture.
There are different types of Drop fiber optic cables on the market, including flat, round, and figure-8 (with steel messenger) cables, all serving the same purpose. Illustration 1 shows the aforementioned Drop fiber cables.

In this type of cable, the kind of optical fiber strand it contains can vary, such as G.657A1, G.657A2, G.657B3, etc., where the main difference is the minimum bending radius at which the optical fiber can be bent without suffering any damage or experiencing any unwanted attenuations. Currently, G.657A2 fiber is the most widely used optical fiber for these types of Drop cables, due to its minimum bending radius. Illustration 2 shows the different bending radii of some existing optical fibers on the market.

Typically, these fiber optic cables have an LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) jacket, meaning this type of cable can be installed in almost any home, building, antenna, or wherever FTTX service needs to be extended.
