What is NFC technology?

Near-Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless connectivity technology that provides intuitive, simple, and secure communications between electronic devices. NFC is a form of RFID technology that has a reading range of up to a few centimeters. NFC operates in the high-frequency (HF) band of the radio frequency spectrum in accordance with the ISO/IEC 18000-3 standard.

Key features of this technology.

• Based on RFID technology operating at 13.56 MHz (HF).

• Operating distance is around 10 cm or less.

• Data exchange rates: 06 kbit/s to 424 kbit/s.

Near-Field Communication (NFC) technologies first appeared in 1983, although it wasn't until 2006 that Nokia introduced the first NFC-enabled mobile phone. Today, NFC technology is present in many mobile phones and electronic devices.

NFC technology has enormous potential to make people's lives more practical. For example, with a simple tap, an NFC device can be used to pay for mass transit fares (contactless technology). Currently, this technology is generally used for payments and marketing applications, but NFC is not limited to making payments; it is also used for other applications such as access to buildings, hotel rooms, and/or homes, further increasing convenience. Additionally, an NFC device can be used to:

• Identify products or objects, using an NFC tag, to display additional information about them.

• Perform payment or access control functions.

• Transfer information between electronic devices.

• Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing with another object, such as tapping a speaker to play music on it.
